St Benedict

St Benedict lived in the 6th Century, born in Norcia, Italy. He established monasteries at Subiaco and Monte Casino. He is known for his Rule which is a guide to community living and is still the basis of the way of life of monastics and other religious today. He is known as the father of western monasticism. 

Feast of St Benedict

21st March is the day Benedictine monks and nuns celebrate the Passing of St Benedict. He has a second feast on 11th July as St Benedict, the patron of Europe.
