Welcome
Welcome to Monks in the City, located in the Kemptown district of the Catholic Parish of East Brighton.

In January 2021 three monks of Worth Abbey moved to Brighton to establish a small monastery in the city. A few years later the Bishop of Arundel & Brighton invited our community to live at St John the Baptist’s in Kemptown, where we have collectively taken on the role of assistant priest in this dynamic East Brighton parish.
We live alongside the Fitzherbert Community Hub, (known as The Fitz) with its commitment to social outreach and have been very warmly received by the parish.

Our vision is to share our life of community and prayer in an urban setting, while pointing to the rural monastery of Worth Abbey as a place of spiritual refreshment and renewal.
We have developed a programme of Prayer and Monk Talks providing opportunities to join with the monastic community for reflection, contemplation and the teaching of the Rule of St Benedict.

You are all welcome!
