Welcome to Monks in the City, located in the Kemptown district of the Catholic Parish of East Brighton.

In January 2021 three monks of Worth Abbey moved to Brighton to establish a small monastery in the city. A few years later the Bishop of Arundel invited our community to live at St John the Baptist’s in Kemptown, where we have collectively taken on the role of assistant priest in this dynamic East Brighton parish.

We live alongside the Fitzherbert Community Hub, with its commitment to social outreach and have been very warmly received by the parish.

In addition to parish pastoral and sacramental duties, our vision is to share our life of community and prayer in an urban setting, while pointing to the rural monastery of Worth Abbey as a place of spiritual refreshment and renewal.

We have developed a programme of Prayer and Monk Talks to join with the community for reflection, contemplation and the teaching of the Rule of St Benedict.

All are welcome!
